چکیده

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are defined as diseases which are caused by a microbial invasion of the genitourinary tract that extends from the renal cortex of the kidney to the urethral meatus 2 . Among UTIs acquired in the hospital, approximately 75% are associated with a urinary catheter 3 . Catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) is one of the most important Device associated infection (DAI) and it is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients 4 . The risk of acquiring catheter associated urinary tract infection (UTI) depends on method and duration of catheterization, the quality of catheter care and host susceptibility 5,6,7 . Host factors including female sex, prolonged catheterization, severe underlying illness, International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 6 Number 8 (2017) pp. 2446-2453 Journal homepage: http://www.ijcmas.com
